Open your steam directory(where you have installed steam). There you will find a
subdirectory called "steamapps".

In steamapps you are supposed to have the following files:

hal f-life engine.gfc
half-life.gcf
< br>half-life localized.gfc
counter-stri ke.gfc
platform.gfc

These files are created once steam is ran, and the files are converted
from your old Half Life directory.

IMPORTANT: If any of these files are missing, you have to run steam and wait
for the update to create them. The files are created once you click on
games -> counterstrike in the steam menu.

HOWTO:

How to install counter-strike.gcf:

# 1 : Unrar the file, so that you have a file called counter-strike.gcf.

# 2 : Cut-past the file to your Steam\steamapps directory, and be sure to
overwrite your old counter-strike.gcf file. You have to make sure you've
exited Steam, as the file is in use and impossible to overwrite otherwise.

#3 : Run Steam. CounterStrike 1.6 is now installed to your computer. You
can either launch it by clicking on Servern in the Steam menu and finding
a proper server, or you can simply go to Games -> CounterStrike.
