Many of them address the obvious question: why only 3 pre-releases?

Legitimate question, but the answer is fairly straightforward, and I believe it makes sense. We're walking a fine line here by offering this pre-release.

We wanted to offer some people the opportunity to test it, without risking any sort of leak. When you're dealing with a beta kind of situation, there are very strict numbers you have to follow in terms of ensuring that nothing gets leaked.

We talked about this internally, and decided that doing a pre-release of something like 100 people would be far too risky, especially with the mod itself being release in just a few days.

People are comparing this situation to the "Willy Wonka Golden Ticket" phenomenon

Which is pretty clever

But I don't see how that's such a terrible thing

Three pre-releases was decided to be the most practical way to offer some incentive for re-populating the Steam Community Page

I was very open about the fact that the primary reason for offering these pre-releases was that we wanted to get the Steam Group back up

It's a crucially important thing to have; we all need to prove to Valve that they can't mess with this

So, people are frustrated because it's 3/20,000

The fact is that having the #1 group on Steam with 20k members is SO much more important to our goal, because it sends Valve a message.

Many of you may be frustrated at the odds of this raffle, but we simply wanted to provide some kind of reward for the community banding together and getting this group back up.

To issue pre-releases to more than just a few individuals (such as 100) would also take valuable time away from setting up the distribution infrastructure.

So, 3 was a practical, small number we came up with.

I literally have 500 pm's right now, so let me read them all to answer the next question

Do I think that they will? I mean, from the response, they do. So I don't need to predict that.

But should they? No.

Absolutely not. This was not some publicity scheme to get users on the community page while we delay the mod for another month.

Right now (and this relates to the release date), we have the open beta version ready to go

The further delays are from the DISTRIBUTION angle of things, not CODING

So, things like: making sure you CAN download the mod without servers crashing

making sure you have PLACES TO PLAY

So I really don't understand what's there to feel cheated about. We're working with our hosting sponsors very closely to secure the bandwidth for this release, and also to have at least 15 public servers in each region available upon release

We felt it was necessary to have that steam community page re-populated, for obvious reasons, and we made a plea to the community to help us out.

That's how I feel about it, and I think the best answer I can give is that

Believe me, after this is released publicly, NOBODY will feel cheated

BTW, if someone tries to link you to any sort of CSP Beta.exe file

People basically want to know what the official release date will be

The best way I can answer this question is to say that the work we are doing now is on the distribution side of things, and not the coding side of things. So, it's possible that it could be released tomorrow, but it could be Monday or Tuesday as well. I'm sorry if this makes you incensed, and I'm sorry if you will refuse to play CSPromod because we released on Oct 2nd instead of September 30th

I think you all know that it wouldn't make sense to try and release a mod if

1) you couldn't all download it effectively

and 2) you had no way of playing it with each other

so, in regards to dedicated servers, which i have had many questions on

tomorrow, Divo Networks, our server sponsor, will be developing a server side config

and testing it on their servers

after it has been polished, we'll be releasing the config and other instructions

so that any server company or individual can put up a server

comment in response to my last point

"so you don't even have a server config yet, ROFL"

is that what i said? no.

we've had dedicated servers working perfectly for going on a month, now

we haven't handed the files over to a hosting company yet

why dont you address why you have not released any gameplay videos to prove you actually have a mod and we arent talking about thin air

because we're not going to waste enormous amounts of time on stuff like that when we could spend it coding or setting up servers

just like i'm not going to spend a whole day coordinating 100 beta keys

when i could spend 15 minutes doing 3, and using the rest of the day to make sure this is released a day earlier as opposed to a day later

ok, last comment

to be quite frank, i really don't care if people think i'm leading them on, or think this mod is a myth, or will never happen

because when you play it

all of those doubts will be answered

as anyone who's followed this mod knows, if you flame, you get ignored

if you post constructive criticism

i have a question, whats the point of putting pressure on steam ? whats the goal about it...

"pressure" is not the right word

steam just needs to understand that this is a big deal.

and that people care about it.

because we want to be able to have CSP on steam, right?

for instant, auto-updates

a futre Garry's mod type of deal

without the price tag

so, that's one of the many reasons why the community page is so important

so that when i have the phone call with valve to say

"we need CSP on steam"

they don't say "ok, where's the proof"

because EVERY DAY, they look at their community and see us @ #1

ALEX GET CSP ON STEAM FOR EASY DL'S

so, don't you also see how important it was to get 20k on the community page?

but dont you realize how long it took garrys mod to get onto steam like it did?

all the more reason to put more people on the community page.

one of the reasons it took that mod so long is that

it wasn't valve's most popular game.

CSP will be valve's most popular game

that's really all i can handle for right now

please be patient

using your energy to spam the irc channel and flame us on websites

really doesn't accomplish anything
