Hej! Har satt ihop en text angående Linux och Windows.
Skriven på engelska då jag använder den på flera forum.

Glad läsning!

I am a pure faithful windows user, I just got myself a new laptop with Windows Vista business pre-installed, works out pretty well, although im having trouble with the usual windowsstuff, long loadingtimes (On my Dualcore 2ghz Intel, 2 gigs of ram, ATI Radeon X1700 mobility) etc.
Im having a great time with vista though, it's easy to use and very pleasing to the eye, I love the graphic Interface and all the cool stuff that comes along with it.

Im a very dedicated gamer, and have been for many years, I compete and I have been involved in the gaming community for many years and yes, I support it as a sport. Windows XP has a great support for games (Altough DirectX 10 hasn't been released to XP).
Windows XP doesn't kill my computer, I can play really demanding high graphics games, and all the games support Windows XP. Windows XP is every gamers natural choice of OS. The big competition leagues like ESWC, CPL, WCG, ESL still use Windows XP as their OS.
I've been using Windows since the day that I started using a PC. It's the only thing that I've been introduced to.

Ok, enough of the shelfing of Windows.
There are many complains about Windows that I agree on, the XP network plug-and-play functions, Windows update (worst update support e.v.e.r.?) and once or twice a year I end up with some Virus erasing my workfiles.

I found out about Linux a few years ago, my brains wasn't developed enough to start using it (most gamers brains hasn't) You may wonder why im capable of using windows and not Linux.
First of all, Windows never really requires me to read, I can figure out what to do by following pictures, working my way trough like an infant.
When I use my computer, and want things to work out easily, with no complications. I want a default webrowser, a default chatting program, and support for all the applications that I want to use.
I want to be able to install a game, go online and start competing with my friends. I want to be able to go to a lanparty, hook up with the router and start fragging in some Quake3, Counter-strike, Battlefield2, Quake4, Warcraft3 and Starcraft.
Thats six of the most played games in the gaming community (not including World of Warcraft)

Im standing on the edge though, Linux really impress me sometimes, No viruses, not having any trouble with the computer locking up (Atleast of what I've heard) Looks like the ultimate workingstation to me, and I keep asking myself, Why dont I use Linux as my OS?

I dont have the patience to configure my OS myself. I dont want to choose between Slackware or Redhat (what the hell is the difference?) I want to able to install games and play, no configuring to be able to get it started. I want to use the simple applications that I can find on google, like daemontools, DC++, miRC, but I cant.
I have to find some wierd Linux Version that I never heard of, and there's not one single version for basic users, it's like a never-ending jungle to me, and finally, I have to install it manually, asking hundres of questions on Linuxforum to get a simple program working.
Maby you dont agree on this, but put yourself in my position. (Dont forget that you have the brains of an infant) I haven't got the patience to read manuals or guides to use my OS.

I can choose between three different OS, Windows, Linux or Mac OSX.

Mac seems nice, I need a mac computer to use it though, and it doesn't support all the games, and all cool hardware is released and supported to PC.

Linux seems nice aswell, I would love to use it, but a need a version that supports my style of using a computer.

Windows is my final choice, I can game (any game I want) I can install applications and use my computer the way I want to use it. Except one thing, it's windows, all the trouble that comes along using it keeps me spending my salary on new keyboards that I've been destroying during hundres of errormessages.

There are millions of users like me. Gaming is not just games anymore, ever heard of the conception "E-sports"? (Electronic Sports) If you haven't, do some google magic my friend.

Anyway, Microsoft got all thouse user (Including me) right in their pocket, and most of the users want to switch OS, but got nowhere to go.

Maybe im out of date with this stuff, some informations might be old, but my "hang arounds" on the internet is Windows users, I dont get any information about Linux, unless I really do some serious research about it.
I recently found out about Ubuntu, seems cool. But I wouldn't find out about it if my friend wouldn't have told me.
I dont find Linux anywere but on the internet. I never see anything about it on TV, Radio, newspaper. Think about it, have you ever seen or even heard about a commercial about Linux that is directed to a normal user?

The Linux markting is some of the worst I've seen, personaly I think you need a slap in the face and a cup of coffee, wheres the cock and balls? Are you expecting people to google Linux on their own interest?

Users want a product that they can go buy, get a guarantee, a product that they can touch and understand what it is, and they need someone to blame if something goes wrong. They want a support that they can call and harass. Maybe Linux have all that, but how im I going to find out about if I dont hear anything about it?

When I went to www.Linux.com I found a link that said "Learn more about Linux" Thats not enough, I need to get it thrown in my face. Theres no way that im going to change OS if people dont tell me to.
Take a look at Apples marketing, their commercials is 70% about how much better their product is then PC. and 30% about what their product really is. Personally im kinda tired of hearing about how ugly my PC is but atleast apple is out there competing with their product, and it's going pretty well, I would hate to see Linux become a third part though, right now im looking at your product as "the once that wont make it"

I keep on buying Windowsproducts because of the simple fact that I know what it is, I know what I get, and I know the company who makes it. I dont like it, but it's my only choice.
