Can Liquid and cloud 9 keep their results up?
Both Liquid and Cloud9 has had good results as of late. Cloud9 managed to reach the semifinals after beating both Astralis and fnatic in 2 Bo1’s and then they lost to FaZe with a score of 2-0 where they lost a 14-8 lead to a 19-15 loss on Mirage. Liquid managed to beat fnatic in a bo3 but ended up losing the decider match against Astralis with a score of 2-1. Liquid still showed that teams shouldn’t underestimate them and having their recent performances in mind, that’s something that the teams at the major qualifier won’t do.
Will Optic be able to turn around their bad trend against EU teams?
Optic hasn’t been playing too well against EU teams recently, but have played better against NA teams. At the esl pro league finals they lost Bo1’s to Mousesports, Na’Vi and North and recently at the ECS season 3 finals they lost a bo1 to FaZe and one bo3 to G2. They have to step up against the European teams in order to qualify for the major.
Will the french superteam be able to meet the expectations?
G2 was one of the favorites to win the ECS finals, but lost their quarterfinal match against FaZe with 2-0. They have, despite that, had some good results lately. They won the pro league finals after beating Sk in the semi and North in the final. The expectations on the french “superteam” are high since they are big favorites to make it through to the major.
How will Godsent perform after acquiring messioso as their new coach?
Godsent acquired Messioso, ex-admin for ESL, approximately a month before the major qualifier, due to the lack of structure within the team. I’m curious how he’ll be in a match. If he’ll be a coach who’ll call during freezetimes or if he’ll just be more of a cheerleader and might give input to pronax. It will be interesting to see what messioso have changed within the team and what kind of impact it will have on the team.
Will peacemaker help Tyloo make it to the major?
Four days before the major qualifier started Tyloo announced that peacemaker will be coaching the team at the major qualifier. Peacemaker has earlier coached Team liquid and immortals, when they still were playing under Luminosity. The question is if the language barrier will be too big in this case. It’ll be interesting to see what peacemaker will bring to the table, if he’ll try something similar to what he tried with liquid or if he’ll try a completely new approach.
How will the international teams fare?
Mousesports, Penta and dignitas are the international teams who will fight for a ticket to the major.
Mousesports participated in Dreamhack Summer, where they were one of the favorites, but got eliminated in the group stage. They are also seen as one of the favorites to make it to the major due to the results they've had with the lineup. Will ropz and oskar be able to get to their first ever major?
Penta, consisting of zehn, innocent, suNny, kRYSTAL and HS, has had some good results recently, especially in the major qualifier, where they managed to beat both dignitas and envyus in BO3’s. It’ll be interesting to see how the team will handle the pressure that they’ll encounter during the qualifier. It will also be interesting to see how much NaSu has helped the team as a coach, how they have developed and so on. Another thing that speaks against them is that the team lacks experience from playing against higher tier teams.
Last, but not least, we have dignitas. The team consists of jkaem, rubino, cromen, tenzki, fox and then polly, who’s their coach. The team has only played at one lan, the offline qualifier for the major. Where they went through to the main qualifier after beating LDLC twice and BIG in a BO3. Jkaem, rubino and fox has experience with playing under pressure and playing against top tier teams but the question is how cromen will play under pressure and how he will play against the higher tier teams.
Will Immortals finally be able to qualify for a major?
Immortals have never qualified for a major, but they have been close to qualifying before. They lost the last, deciding game in the Eleague major qualifier against G2 in overtime, after winning their 2 first games and thus being 2-0. Now they have a chance to redeem themselves and qualify for their first ever major, but the question is if they will be able to handle the pressure.
