On the 2nd of May Aftonbladet Esport released a interview with NiKo where he criticized the community for bashing his teammates. “I don’t like how they’re talking about them. They don’t see their influence in game. All they see is the score board. I don’t like it and I’m trying to work with the team saying they shouldn’t care about it.”, Niko said.
This is something that has been going on for quite some time and that hasn’t only happened to the players mentioned in the interview but also to other players.
When I first started to watch CSGO back in 2014 I was one of the many people that criticized players, but I’ve stopped with that now since I’ve realized that it isn’t fair to the players to receive hate or any bad criticism.
The threads that some people do just to criticize players is unnecessary, keep those opinions to yourselves instead. The players are on sites like Reddit and HLTV just like many of us CSGO fans, and they see this threads as well. What do you think happen with their confidence? It will sink. What do the people get out of even making these treads if you’re not going to give constructive criticism? Nothing, except the satisfaction of getting your rage out.
One example is Pansy that had to receive hate for a comment that she did for a couple of years ago against a man that everybody thought was a pedophile, she went out and excused the act in public and she still received hate. Why even focus on something that happened in the past? We're not living in the past, we're living in the present. Things like this and the witch hunts does not only affect pros but also profiles.
The majority of the hate that the pros in our community get come from people that are mad because they lost their skins from a bet, which is actually one of the reasons to why personally think that steam made the right decision when they announced that they will shut down all sites that has a connection to gambling with skins.
The reason to why I’m writing this is because I want everyone, even if you have to see this as a wakeup call. I want to make you realize that your actions do actually affect the profiles and the players and I want to make you think twice before you post or write something. Think yourself in the situation of the player or profile. How would YOU feel if you received hate for just doing your job? You would probably feel bad and just try to shake it off. And don’t come here with “it’s a part of their jobs” because that’s just bullshit. The pros and profiles are just doing what they love and shouldn’t receive hate in any form what so ever. To work that hard to bring you our best, and then be criticized for it, doesn’t exactly feel super great You should respect everybody, It's ok to have a favorite player/caster/analyst but give respect to everyone in the community if they deserve it. Do we really need a player or a profile to go out and say that “I quit because of the hate” for all of this hate and negativity to stop? I Most certainly don’t hope so.
The simple conclusion that you can take from this is that everybody should think twice before they post something on reddit or on HLTV.
