fnatic wins FBM Champions Showdown

14
The Fragbite Masters Champions Showdown has ended, with fnatic winning the series 4-1 and therefore securing a spot in the Season 5 LAN finals.
The Swedes of fnatic are the winners of Fragbite Masters Champions Showdown, winning four out of the five maps played and thereby securing themselves a spot in the Fragbite Masters powered by Com Hem Season 5 LAN finals. This means Team SoloMid will have to play the online phase of the tournament to come back to Stockholm in December.
1. Sverige fnatic — 80,000 SEK (~$9,400) + spot in Season 5 LAN finals
2. Danmark Team SoloMid — 20,000 SEK (~$2,300)

fnatic took the lead via Cobblestone

The first map in the series was Cobblestone, where Team SoloMid got to start as the charging team. They did well, for starters, picking up a good lead before fnatic put in a higher gear in order to keep up. The half time score ended up being a narrow 8-7 win for the Danes, but fnatic's momentum from the later half followed them into the second half. Picking up nine rounds as Terrorists, losing only four to TSM, fnatic won the first map with a 16-12 scoreline and took a 1-0 lead and 15,000 SEK.

TSM failed to win their Dust2

A win is a win, but that was on fnatic's own map, and now it was up to Team SoloMid to counter on their pick — Dust2. However, it went far away from planned when fnatic showed somewhat of a dominance on the T side by winning eleven rounds out of fifteen possible. Team SoloMid then showed some attacking spirit themselves, but it was not nearly enough to switch the match around. The Swedes had now won two straight games, taking a 2-0 lead and 30,000 SEK prize money.

Train went the challengers' way

Map number three was to be played out on Train, a map of fnatic's choice. This, of course, meant Team SoloMid got to pick their starting side — and of course, they chose to defend. On the CT based map, it was TSM's turn to get eleven rounds in half time. Worth noticing is that this was due to two 1v1 defuses that went the Danes' way. Even though fnatic won the following pistol round, Team SoloMid's tactics as terrorists proved to be enough to break fnatic's defence, and TSM were on the board and 20,000 SEK richer.

TSM nearly made a comeback on Mirage

When the fourth map started, fnatic only needed one more map to secure the spot in the Fragbite Masters Season 5 LAN finals, and it sure looked like it would go their way with less effort than expected. With Mirage being TSM's choice of map, it looked grim when their Swedish opponents got a fantastic start as Terrorists. Round by round went fnatic's way, and in the end of the half they had an 11-4 lead to work with going over to the CT side. But TSM never gave up.

The 4-11 deficit turned around completely for TSM, and in nine rounds they worked themselves back to a 12-12 score. At this point, worried fnatic fans would clinch their fists as the Swedes started winning rounds again, and went up to a 15-12 score. The TSM in-game leader Finn "karrigan" Andersen stepped up big in this cut-throat moment, getting an ace by winning a near-impossible 1vs4 round. However, Andersen's efforts never result in a comeback, as fnatic won the following round to finish the map 16-13 and winning the series 3-1. It wasn't done yet, though.

Inferno put salt in the wound

Even though fnatic had won the series and thereby secured themselves a spot at the Season 5 LAN finals, there was still a good chunk of money left to fight for. 30,000 SEK, the most valuable of the five different prize purses, were up for grabs on Inferno, where TSM started as the terrorist side. The Danes did good at first, winning four straight rounds before fnatic beat them in an eco round to gain some momentum. The eco win turned out to be the beginning of a complete turn-around for fnatic, as the Swedes ended up taking home the first half with 9-6.

The Swedes then extended their lead by winning the pistol round, surely looking like they would pick up the final map as well. However, TSM started doing damage to fnatic as defenders, but it wasn't enough to win the map.
